Hazendal Wine Estate – Michael Hackner Architects

Partnering up with Michael Hackner, Chris took the lead design position for the new additions to this historical old farm. These include a New Administration wing, Conference Facility, Restaurant, Deli, Pavilion and New children’s educational play facility. What is striking about the farm is the way the new interacts in a sympathetic synergy with the old. Due to the farm’s historic importance a thorough and informative heritage application determined the approach for the new development. The ‘old barn’ archetype has been reinterpreted , stripping down its form to the basic elements , modern materials have been applied in white .These new barn structures have been used to supplement the existing building programs, extending axial alignments and compliment the scale of the old so that the new structure blends in almost unnoticed.
